The word “gospel” means good news. The Bible says that the gospel is the power of God to salvation. When the Bible uses this word, it’s speaking about the good news of Jesus Christ, that He, the Son of God, came into the world as a man, to save us from our sins, make us new and give us eternal life, through His life, death and resurrection, if we trust in Him.

Our first parents sinned by disobeying God, entered the world, separating us from God. Every person born is sinful by nature because we inherited Adam’s sin, and through our own choices and failures we sin against God, so we are all guilty before a perfect, holy and just God, no one is righteous.

God is just and must punish sin, and would be just to condemn us to His wrath in Hell for our sin against Him, as there is nothing we, being sinful, can do to pay for offenses. However, He is also merciful and loving. In His love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, truly man and truly God, to live the perfect life that we could not, then die in our place upon the cross, taking our sins and giving us His righteousness, so that we could be justified and be reconciled to God. Christ rose from the dead after three days and ascended into Heaven, conquering sin and death and now sits at the right hand of God the Father, from which He will come again to judge the world.

All who repent of their sin and put their faith in Christ, who confess Him as Lord and trust in Him alone as their salvation, have the hope that they will receive eternal life through Him and are part of His Kingdom and the family of God.

This is the Gospel, the hope that we have in Jesus Christ; that we who were enemies of God and justly condemned and dead in sin can be restored to Him, be set free and made alive in Christ forever.
